Las Tunas Beach NeighborhoodMalibu, like few places in the world, is a place where the mountains come down to meet the sea. In Las Tunas, the space between ocean and mountains is very narrow, with high steep cliffs on the land side and narrow rocky beach on the ocean side. A mix of single-family and multi-family residences line the wet beaches. For the most part, the residences are on narrow lots and are both single and multi story construction with varied architectural styles.
There is almost no separation of PCH from these properties. Residents park on PCH or in road level garages if the property provides one. There is considerable noise from the busy highway. During rush hours, it can be difficult or dangerous to enter or leave these parking spots. Crossing the road is hazardous as well. The steep bluffs across PCH from the houses are unstable and often slide in wet weather. PCH has been closed by such slides repeatedly and, in some cases, large rocks have rolled across the road and have damaged homes. Offsetting the problems is the incredible beauty of the settings. The homes are set on elaborate pilings reaching right over the ocean. Inside, the sound of the surf is constant and soothing. The view from window or deck can only be called awesome.
